இறந்த முன்னோர்களுக்கு நினைவு தினமாக அவர்களின் இறந்த தினத்தை கடைபிடித்து வருகிறோம். ஒருவர் இறந்த தேதியையும் (ஆங்கிலத்தேதி மாதம் வருடம் ) நேரத்தையும் கொண்டு அவருடைய இறந்த திதியை கணக்கிட வேண்டும் (இந்து காலண்டரின் படி ) அந்த திதியில் வருடம் தோறும் அவர் நினைவாக இறந்தவருக்கு செய்யும் ஈமக்கிரியைக்கு திவசம் அல்லது திதி என்று பெயர். இதனை வருடம் தோறும் அவசியம் செய்ய வேண்டும். இதற்குரிய சேவை இதுவாகும். தலை திவசம் என்பது இறந்தவரின் முதல் வருட திதியாகும் இதற்கு கூடுதலான சில தினங்கள் செய்யப்படும்.

We observe death anniversaries in remembrance of our dear and departed. The departed’s Thithi must be determined as per the Hindu calendar based on their date of death. (Date, Month and Year). The death anniversary that falls on the Thithi every year is known as Divasam and should be observed without fail. The first death anniversary is known as Thalai Divasam and is observed for a few days longer.
